Michael Christen is a writer, photojournalist and video producer based in Austin, Texas.

He has covered breaking news, education, government, business and special features with the ultimate goal of providing readers with a greater understanding of their communities through strong images, informative writing and compelling video.

After graduating with a degree in Communications and Media Studies from Goucher College in Baltimore, Md., he took a position as a staff writer with The Daily Herald in Columbia, Tenn. in 2015 before transitioning into a role as the publication's multimedia editor.

The role led him to travel throughout the Volunteer State to report on a variety of subjects including the 2015 Chimney Tops 2 fire in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival in Manchester, the Tennessee General Assembly in Nashville, and a bi-annual gathering of bluegrass musicians in Summertown.

In May 2022, he joined the Austin Business Journal to cover economic development in the Texas capital.

He has collaborated with Wisconsin Watch, The Tennessee Tribune, The Oak Ridger and The Tennesseean among others.
